Monday nights are "Baby Signs" nights here in our Early Head Start world. During an hourly class last Monday two of my families shared a "magic carpet" and began practicing signs with their children. After observing one of my mothers speaking to the teacher in English, another mother asked me how long this mother had lived in the United States. When I told mom that she had lived her only three short years mom was amazed. She could not believe that after such a short time in the U.S. her command of the English language could be so advanced. Mom then asked me to ask where she learned to speak English so well. The English speaking mom told her that she attended weekly "English Cafe" sessions at TCC and would love for her to attend with her. The two moms exchanged phone numbers and look forward to getting together soon and practicing their English. It was so wonderful seeing yet another connection being made through our social outings!
