One of Evangelina's sisters could not understand why her child, who is 4 years old, wasn't talking in comparison to Evangelina's son who is also 4 and speaks clearly. Evangelina proceeded to ask her sister how she encouraged her daughter to speak and the sister replied that she repeated everything the girl said. Evangelina advised her sister that she should be having one-on-one, face-to-face conversations with her daughter in order for the girl to hear and see her mother speak. Also, Evangelina encouraged her sister to read to her daughter in order for the daughter to listen to her inflections and listen to words match pictures. Evangelina spoke about how important it is for the daughter to play more than she watches televsion because television hinders language development. Evangelina has gained much knowledge from the EHS program to use with her own children and is reaping the results!
