Dad as Teacher
Most of the caregivers I work with are moms, but I have one little girl whose dad is usually at home for our visits. This week mom had an appointment and so it was just dad and daughter. Usually, dad sits back and lets mom do more of the active participation in the lesson but this week it was dad's turn to be the teacher for his child. Dad used many techniques during our lesson such as parallel and stretch talk to encourage language development. His daughter responded to dad's encouragement by attempting to use her verbal skills. Dad seemed proud of himself as I bragged on how much he has learned and his teaching abilities. MJ
