In the last few months K’s family has endured their share of hardships. K’s Dad got hurt at work and is currently unemployed. Often I invited Dad to join us during the visit but he always managed to find something to do or something to fix. This time as Mom and I began to discuss the handouts, Dad was sitting nearby at the kitchen table. When we got to the handout that talked about the importance of a Father’s role in a child’s development, Dad started to move closer and eventually made it to the floor with us. He was glad and proud to know that the time that he has spent with all 7 children was so valuable in their development. He then said: "I’m glad to hear that even though the circumstances are not ideal , the extra time that I’m spending with my kids can really make a difference". The following day Mom started a new job and couldn’t bring K and her siblings to social. It was time for the social and dad showed up with all 7 kids! He told me that he remembered the importance of his role as a father.
