Discovering His Voice

AL is 27 months old, and unfortunately has had repeated ear infections, as well as some surgery to help with his hearing. AL has primarily only used gestures and motions to get his needs met. He has only been "mouthing" sounds, and up until this month has not made actual sounds with his voice. Mom and I both have been concerned, and with his recent ASQ screening results have both agreed that a referral to Sooner Start was needed. The resource coordinator with Sooner Start has been to the home recently, and the process of remediation has begun. Mom and I have spent a great deal of our home visit time discussing AL's language development, as well as follow up activities that would be beneficial. Mom has been very diligent in working with her son, and it is showing. At our home visit this week, Mom was so excited to share with me that AL had discovered his voice. He is actually shouting! He is now using his voice, with gestures to get his needs met. It is so very exciting to share in this progress. I look forward to collaborating with Sooner Start with his continued success in acquiring language.
