I believe the above questions were swirling inside JR's 17 month old brain, as he entered LaFortune Park playground area for a socialization. This was JR's first encounter at a park! He immediately started exploring his new environment. I informed Mom that outdoor play gave JR's brain practice coordinating messages from different sources - muscles, senses and balance. Mom allowed him to enjoy the freedom of running in an area that was safe. He experimented with walking and running on the different surfaces. JR enjoyed the sensory experience of soil and grass. He used his large muscles and exercised his balance skills. JR climbed, slid and enjoyed swinging for the first time. He was also a a great observer of other children around him. Mom was surprised and delighted to learn about the power of play, as she observed JR's first visit at the park.
