Looking Toward the Future

Three times a year, we take time during our visits to discuss goal setting with our families. We look back at past goals and discuss the progress that has been made. Families have the opportunity to brainstorm about continued strategies for obtaining these goals and to think about any new goals they want to make. On a recent visit with a young Mom, we discussed her goal of getting her GED. When she had set the goal four months ago, her strategy was to do on-line studies to prepare for the exam. Upon reviewing her progress, Mom came to the conclusion that this strategy was not working well for her. After discussing various options, she decided to enroll in the program at Union's Alternative school. She has been attending for several weeks and is so happy with the progress she is making toward her goal.
