My caseload is filled with families who have immigrated here from all over the world, and I always enjoy discussions with these families about their culture, customs, languages, and traditions. Two of the families that I visit are from Egypt, and after the uprising in the country I was looking forward to hearing their views on the subject. Both families were very excited about the progress in their homeland and the new opportunities for their families back home. When I arrived at one home, two year old AO eagerly took my hand and led me to the families television where she repeatedly pointed to the TV and spoke excitedly to me in Arabic, the only word I could understand was Egypt. Mom informed me that AO was excited to tell me about the current events in Egypt and that she believed that even little AO understood the impact of the news. Mom and Dad both spoke about how they have been trying to explain everything to their girls, and hope that their daughters will be able to remember where they were when this happened. Both families are very excited to visit their families in Egypt this summer, and to introduce the children to their grandparents. I was very impressed with the dialogue going on in these homes between the parents and the children, and I encouraged the parents to continue to discuss current events with their children.
