Quick on the Draw

During a recent home visit, Valentin was experiencing a 'window of opportunity.' A window of opportunity is a time when the brain works especially hard on certian parts of a baby's development. Valentin's 'window' involved climbing. His mom described how he attempts and typically succeeds at climbing on everything! Sometimes Valentin scares her with his choices of objects to climb on. As mom and I discussed how important it is that he is given opportunities to climb but only when he can climb and also be safe, Valentin proceeded to climb up and onto the sofa. Before we knew it, Valentin had climbed up to the top and attempted climbing down the other side! Mom's quick reflexes closed the 'window of opportunity' and Valentin was once again safe.
