Mom's Spirits Lifted
Most of the mother's in our program are stay-at-home mom's and many experience feelings of isolation. For one of my mom's our visits are a highlight of her week.... and mine, too! When I arrived for our visit today, mom was resting on the sofa with a blanket and the house was cluttered. This is very unusual for this particular mom. One of the rewarding aspects of this job is that I have the opportunity to develop relationships with these families most teachers never get to experience. Because of the established rapport with this mom, she shared some of her trials and frustrations. As we talked about the lesson and observed her children, I could see mom's spirits lifting. Towards the end of the visit, she was even laughing as her 20 month old son made faces at himself in the mirror, part of our activity. The children we have the privilege of working with are such a joy, but it is also rewarding to know and work with these young mother's and perhaps make a difference in their lives. MJ
