Parting is such sweet sorrow...

Recently I had to say goodbye to one of my little boys, and it was so hard, but so wonderful to see how he had grown. I began seeing this boy in late June when he was just 13 months old. Of course, he was amazingly smart and loved playing and learning with mom. Mom and son attended every group social, library story times, and all baby sign classes. After learning all of the baby signs (mom checked out the books from me and practiced them daily), and seeing how well he did at group socializations, mom decided her little boy was ready for a center based environment. I agreed and with the help of our Family Support Specialist we set upon working up a transition plan. Mom visited the school prior to her son's first day and read books about school to him each night. Mom called me after his first week and said that he did not cry the first two days, though mom did. She then said that he had a teacher that looked like me and he ran to her when she entered the room. She reported that he signs to other students in the classroom and is doing really well. He has grown so much, and I feel blessed to have been a part of his "pre-school" learning time.

P.S. Mom is pregnant and is due in July...don't worry, she is already signed up for our program and is on the waiting list...per her request!
