The Clean Up Ladies! :-)
In order to make transitions a positive experience for children and to cue children when transitions are going to take place, we often sing songs. For example, at our socializations, we sing the "Clean Up " song when we are ready to clean up from our center activities. During home visits , I am always amazed at how many moms tell that their little ones now sing the "Clean Up" song while cleaning up toys at home. At a recent home visit, the "Clean Up " song took on a whole new role. When the translator and I first arrived me knocked on the door and we could hear our little friend saying something in a very excited voice. We laughed as we listened at the door. We entered the apartment, had our greeting, and did the lesson. At the end of the visit we did the famous "Clean Up" song. The child willingly helped pick up the toys while singing. Then, mom told us something that made us laugh! The child's mom asked if we heard the child when we arrived. The translator and I said that we did hear him, but did not fully hear what he was saying. Mom said that the child was saying, "The clean up ladies are here! The clean up ladies are here!" Mom told us that the child now refers the clean up ladies whenever he talks about us. So, now not only is the "Clean U p" song great for a transition, it is also our new title!!! :-) Carmen
