As part of the home visit, books are provided by the Parent Educator for 'Book Sharing.' Book Sharing is a time where parents read to the child and allow the child to explore the world of books. Exploration is part of intellectual development. While mom read to her 11 month old baby girl, the baby began to rub her fingers across the shiny pages of the book. Baby repeated this several times and each time she heard the same sound. Baby began to turn the pages in the book, rubbing each page. Mom noted she had not seen this behavior before and actively watched as baby continued to rub each page. Mom was happy to learn that this activity enhanced intellectual development.
