Recently during a home visit, a 29 month little boy came up to me and showed me his hurt finger. After cringing at the story of how the little boy's finger was accidently shut in the door, I heard the emergency room story. Mom told me that upon entering the emergency room, this little boy began calling all the doctors and nurses, "teacher". Mom said he was not afraid at all...he thought all of these people were his teacher and though he was in pain, he was excited to "play" with them. Mom said that having a teacher in the home has prepared him for so many transitions where would be strangers may be. What a wonderful effect Early Head Start has had on this family.
