Step Up!

Some important motor skills for a child are to walk up stairs and to climb. One activity for the 20 month plan is called 'Step, Jump, Climb!' A small box is used for the child to step up, step down and then jump down. Mom and I were trying to encourage her son to step up on the box and he sat down instead. So, we encouraged him once more and again, he sat down on the box. I decided imitation might be the best way for him to understand as he imitates everything his big brother does. Big brother stepped up on the box and stepped down. Little brother then stepped up and stepped down. Big brother repeated the action and little brother followed suit. Little brother was developing a skill as well as playing with his big brother.
