Dress up

On of the favorite activities for both boys and girls is dress up. Children love to pretend, and often play-act in the same way as what they are seeing. One example of this is Hanna pretending to give shots. Hanna had "princess gloves", but she did not use them when she dressed up like a princess, instead she would "snap" them at the wrists then take a pencil and poke her dolls in the arm. It took her mother a while to figure out that Hanna was recreating the scene that she had experienced at the Dr. months earlier. Another little girl that I visit has had medical issues her whole life, and has a full time nurse with her at all times. When I brought in a dress up trunk she quickly looked past most of the outfits and was so excited to discover a nurse uniform and the tools to match. She played for more than an hour in the scrubs using all of the tools on me and her parents. She knew exactly how to use each thing and really enjoyed getting to be the one in charge. Jamie
