I am amazed at the language skills of the two year olds I visit. As I am still working my way to complete fluency in Spanish, there are times when I learn a new vocabulary word from them. This afternoon, I got more of a vocabulary lesson than I really actually needed. A mom had offered me some cake. As I was eating it, the two year old I was visiting asked what it was. Knowing he could see it, I teased him by saying it was broccoli. He looked at me very seriously and then went into the kitchen. "Come, teacher, come," he said to me in Spanish. He then asked his mom to open the refrigerator. He took out some broccoli and said to me clearly and patiently, "Teacher, this is broccoli." I thanked my young Spanish teacher for the hands-on vocabulary lesson.
