Repetition is a key word we emphasize to our parents. As parent educators, we also must remind parents constantly about issues that could affect development. Such is the case with 4 month old LD. LD was on her back, when I arrived for the visit. She was also holding and sucking her bottle. LD's mom was excited about this new skill. Information had previously been given to Mom regarding this scenario, possible result of ear infections. I picked LD up, cuddled her and held her bottle upright. Occasionally LD would help me hold the bottle. As I modeled, Mom and I reviewed the four monthly lessons, emphasizing hearing and language development. We reviewed the importance of holding baby and holding bottle upright, so that the proper amount of air remains in the middle ear.
