"Look What I Learned to Do!"

Learning to cut with scissors is an important preschool skill. Often parents are reluctant to provide this opportunity until it is modeled to them. We discuss scissor safety as well as a variety of activities such as playing with tongs and eyedroppers that exercise the muscles needed for cutting. On a recent visit, V. had a great time picking up pom poms with tongs. He was then ready to practice snipping with scissors. The look of sheer delight on his face when he cut a paper into two pieces made Mom and me smile as well. He practiced this skill over and over and each time gave the same huge grin to Mom and to me when the paper was cut in two.
