My Special Book!

Early exposure to books helps children learn to read, and to enjoy reading later on. The eleven month lesson plan emphasizes receptive language, and techniques to encourage this very important language developmental milestone. Making a book allows parents to select photos, or magazine pictures, that are of particular interest to their child. JR's Mom and Dad were eager to learn how to make books. Using construction paper, pictures and other materials, Mom and Dad made JR a book. Mom used the techniques we had discussed, regarding engaging your child in book play. She talked about the pictures, as she turned the pages. Mom tapped on the pictures to capture his attention. JR responded by using " book babble", patting the book, and bouncing up and down . It was a special moment, as JR showed so much interest in the special book that Mommy and Daddy made him.
