Puzzle play is an important activity for 2 year olds and we bring puzzles along on our visits almost every week. It is exciting to see children's fine motor, intellectual and language skills increase as they advance from simple insert puzzles to multi-piece interconnected puzzles. A. loves puzzles and his Mother has encouraged this skill by giving him time to problem solve as well as by describing the puzzle pieces he is holding. I was amazed to see this week that A. was now able to complete a 24 piece interconnecting puzzle. His Mother and I enjoyed hearing him self talk the concepts she had been modeling for him this past year as he figured out how the colors and shapes fit together. He proudly showed the finished product then quickly tore apart the pieces so he could start the process again.
