Read It Again Mom!

When visiting CK's family this month Mom let me know how much the program and the 90 minute home visits meant to her. She told me that she is able now to reflect on CK's first year and appreciate the time that she stopped everything else and focused on her baby girl for an hour and a half, but that at the time she had felt overwhelmed in the moment by everything else she should have been getting done. Mom reflected that now that CK is 1 year old she is so grateful for the physical reminder that our visits provided her- that she stops and takes time out to focus 100% on CK. Later in the same visit Mother read CK a board book featuring a farm animal on each page. CK was mesmerized! She constantly pointed to the pictures waiting to hear the animal sound from her mom. CK melted back into her mothers chest and listened, interacted, and turned the pages of the book. This focused time of shared attention lasted more than 25 minutes- and it was obvious that neither of them ever wanted it to end. Mother was so happy to be "required" to spend this one on one time with her youngest, and when I was getting ready to leave she even teared up telling me once again how much she had come to appreciate our visits.
