Join Us

Many parents have said that one of the values of our program for them is the reminder to take the time to get on the floor and play with their kids. Parents can be so busy with the caretaking tasks of cleaning and cooking that they can forget the richness of learning and memories they are giving their children as they play. This richness was evident on a visit this week. The activity was scribbling, and R. was excited to hold the colorful crayons and scribble on a large paper spread across the floor. I talked with Mom and Dad about the fine motor skills 21 month old R. was developing as she scribbled. Dad and Mom were on the floor and began scribbling with R. talking about the colors and shapes they were making. R. was delighted by their participation and jabbered away as they colored together. "Look -here", she said over and over as she made marks. When her uncle walked in the room, R. jumped up, ran to him, and handed him a crayon so that he could join in the fun.
