The importance and fun of music and singing is always a part of our curriculum but has a special focus during the nineteen month lessons. Y had a great time making homemade Maracas a few weeks ago. She used her fine motor skills to put pom poms and foam cut-outs in one water bottle to make a Maraca that made soft sounds and then put colorful macaroni and beads in another bottle to make a Maraca that made loud sounds. I brought along a CD and she was enthusiastic in shaking her Maraca along with the music and then imitating the motions of songs like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "The Wheels on the Bus." She showed great excitement when I came back the next week with CD player in hand. She pointed to the outlet to indicate that she wanted me to plug in the player and start the music. Then she and Mom ran into the room to bring out the homemade Maracas they had been playing with all week. She was ready for the fun to begin again.
