It is normal gross motor development for a 12 month old to begin walking with or without help. One particular little 12 month old has begun this process and I look forward to seeing her each week and observing her progress. Each week a new development has occured either by cruising, taking a couple of steps alone, or by walking with the help of mom acorss the room. This week I observed her carrying a little, pink purse on her arm while walking with mom. If the purse fell from her arm, she would stop, pick up the purse, place it back on her arm and continue walking. Sometimes she removed the purse to stop and play or explore, but then return the purse to her arm and begin the walking process all over again. Not only was she using her gross motor skills, but also, her fine motor. She was quite the 'little lady.'
