Repetition

Repetition is an important part of brain development. It provides connections in the brain to become permanent which, in turn, allows the child to grow in her development. On a recent visit to a 16 month old's home, the child sat with dad while dad read each book the child gave to him. There was one book in particular the child kept picking up and giving dad to read. Mom noted how the child 'asks' to have this book read to him over and over. After dad had read this particular book, the child walked over to me carrying this book and sat down in my lap. I took his cue and began reading the book and discussing the pictures. He sat and listened intently until I finished reading. Mom, dad and I discussed the opportunity they were given by teaching their child the importance of reading.
