One of the children I see has a special gift with problem solving. He often spends as much as 30 mins completing a 25 piece puzzle. He does not ask for assistance and manipulates each piece until it fits with the others. Mom told us that he taught himself to start with the corners, then the edges, and that he will start on one side and move across the puzzle. The puzzles have an age range of 3-7 years old, but at 31 months, he is completing them like a champ!
