Cooking together
Chelsey is new in the program and her mom was needing ideas to deal with the struggles during mealtimes. The lesson this past week talked about allowing the child to help mom cook. During the activity, the mom, Chelsey and two siblings sat at the table and prepared a simple snack together. I shared with the mom how cooking together would help Chelsey feel like she had contributed to the meal and make her more willing to eat it. The children practiced taking turns, listening to mom, counting the ingredients, and using their fine motor skills to mix the ingredients and fold the tortilla. I have always enjoyed cooking and it was wonderful to help one mom see how much her children could learn by cooking together. DH
