Most parents are very surprised and delighted to learn about the powerful and important benefits attributed to play activities. Some parents think that play is entertainment only for their child. The 18 month lesson emphasizes the value of play, using a variety of activities, including a pretend picnic. R sat on the floor with Mom and me. I pretended to eat and drink and R imitated my actions. R became very interested. I encouraged Mom to observe and follow her child's lead in play. Mom was reluctant to participate in our pretend picnic. I explained that children learn best through play, and it enhances all areas of development. R played with the dishes and pretend food the entire visit. Mom played too!!
