Research supports the benefit of simple rhymes in the language and social development of children. Nursery rhymes have been known for generations as short poems that have been passed from parent to child. As I introduced the Rhymes and Songs component and rationale to ST's Mother, she stated that her Grandmother sang rhymes and songs to her as a child, but she had forgotten them. She said that she had only taught ST a few. As we reviewed the book, Mom saw some familiar nursery rhymes, and stated that she wished she had known earlier the importance of childhood rhymes and songs. 33 month old ST enjoyed the interaction as we did several rhymes and songs emphasizing repetition, rhyme and rhythm. I encouraged Mom to use the rhymes and songs daily.
